Something I think about a lot and don't hear enough people saying out loud.
Our parents' generation built real wealth through property. HDB flats bought for $80,000 that sold for $500,000. It worked incredibly well.
But here is the thing nobody wants to say. The conditions that made that possible are not the same conditions we are operating in today.
Entry prices are at generational highs. Cooling measures limit how much upside you can capture. And for the first time, everyday Singaporeans have real alternatives to property for building wealth.
REITs, index funds, business ownership.
This does not mean do not buy property. Home ownership is still one of the most powerful financial decisions you can make especially for own stay.
It means go in with your eyes open.
Know your exit before you enter. Build your buffer before you commit. Understand whether you are buying a home or an investment because the right property for each person is often not the same unit.
The biggest financial decision of your life deserves a full picture. Not just the exciting parts.
