The Board of Directors of Olive Tree Estates Limited ("OTE" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the Company has been certified as a B Corporation™ (“B Corp”), further expressing the Company’s mission and commitment to operate and organize its business as a force for good, delivering quality affordable housing to the underserved in emerging markets as the cornerstone of a holistic social impact solution to improve lives and transform communities.

The B Corp verification process administered by the non-profit, B Lab, measures a company’s social and environmental performance.

To become a Certified B Corp, companies undergo a rigorous review of the impact of their operations and business model on their workers, customers, communities and environment, and must meet a minimum verified score on the B Impact Assessment.

OTE’s journey towards B Corp certification started more than 3 years ago.

Today, OTE joins a network 6,900 Certified B Corps in 90 countries and 161 industries worldwide and is the first company listed on the SGX-ST to have successfully secured B Corp certification.

Over the span of three weeks, Team Olive Tree Estates Ltd and a few key members from our principal business partners in Vietnam, National Housing Organization and Alpha Plus Property Management came together to attend a specially curated Environmental Stewardship training program facilitated by Lawrence Ko.

Lawrence has had decades of both theoretical and practical insight into environmental restoration and conservation and we invited him to help us unpack the importance of our connection with the environment through the ethos of Creation Care, first in the personal and then via the professional arena.

We were challenged to be congruent, unlearning ingrained habits, and relearning the importance of being stewards of nature and the environment to achieve holistic positive social impact for the communities which we are and will be serving.

Digging deeper, we also reflected over local case studies on restoration, preservation, and innovation. Through the sharing of honest personal insights, the no-holds-barred discussions sparked off deep introspection throughout the team.

For us at OTE, having strong shared values is critical. The discussions facilitated by Lawrence and the open sharing which ensued has enabled us to forge better alignment within the team and has helped us to be more authentic in the actions and expressions of our values professionally.

The completion of the training program strengthens our DNA and adds further context and understanding to our collective as we continue our journey to be that enterprise which prioritizes social impact and seeks to find that optimal balance between profit, people and planet.

What gratifying news to start this morning with!

Pre the RTO in Dec 2017 which birthed Olive Tree Estates (OTE), the almost-delisted precursor to OTE was ranked 520 amongst SGX-listed companies on the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index (SGTI).

Post-RTO and now trading as an impact-oriented social enterprise, with a greater and more intentional emphasis on the S (S for Social) and G (G for Governance) elements within the ESG framework, our SGTI ranking climbed from 365 in 2020 to 198 in 2021.

Last year, we set ourselves a target to improve our SGTI ranking further, with the aim of breaking into the top 100 of SGX-listed companies.
Compared to Singapore's corporate behemoths, we're still an 'ikan bilis' of a company. Our hearts are big but resources remain somewhat limited. It was by no means a given that we would be able to improve on our 2021 ranking, much less break into the top 100.
That we have broken into the top 100 and now sit at #55/489 is truly encouraging under the circumstances.

For us, #55 is more than some random number.
It underlines for Team OTE what it means to be functionally/transactionally excellent in all that we do as a matter of form whilst recognising that form in and of itself carries little weight if it fails to express our core ethos and the substance of who we are and what we stand for.

Our third jointly-managed family centre is now live at 1st Home An Giang, Vietnam! We were delighted to see many residents with children in tow excitedly coming down to check out the newly-minted family centre in the days leading up to the launch. We were also glad to welcome respresentativies from the People's Committee of Long Xuyên City during the launch event and look forward to working closely with them. Together with our partners NHO and Alpha Plus Property Management, we share the excitement of the residents as they embark on this new chapter with us. Through specially curated programs and activities, we hope that the family centre will shape up into a gathering place where relationships and community will be built.

Our first trip to Vietnam in more than 2 years. Vietnam - Olive Tree Estates’ principal theatre of operations and a second home to many of us. It’s been a breathless 2 weeks - rushing from meeting to meeting and flying from one site to another. But every moment was deeply savoured, surreal as it was emotional. Walking the ground again, meeting our dear friends and stakeholder partners in person, seeing familiar faces in buildings and shops and thrilled to bits that they had not succumbed to COVID. Renewing old ties and establishing new ones with pent-up vigour. Making memories together again. Precious moments never to be taken for granted. Amazing flow and favour as we were reminded once again why Vietnam and her people are so close to our hearts.

We are glad to announce that our second jointly-managed pilot Family Centre with our local partner Alpha Plus Property Management, is up and running! Located in City Tower - an affordable housing estate developed by National Housing Organisation JSC in Binh Duong, Vietnam.

This Family Centre will serve the community development needs and aspirations of the 527 families living in the estate. Through our programmes and activities, Olive Tree Estates is excited to be a part of this journey with the local residents at City Tower to uncover the many strengths and assets embedded within this community!
