Old Condos Just Got Closer To En Bloc — the new Land Titles (Strata) Amendment Bill lowers the collective sale consent threshold from 80% to 70% for developments 40–59 years old, and to 65% for those 60+. That opens the door for roughly 20,000 ageing private units islandwide.

In exchange, minority owners get real protection: a higher bar to even convene a sale meeting (35%, up from 20–25%), a shorter signature-gathering window, a longer cooling-off period after a failed attempt, and a bigger compensation floor for owners who object.

If you own in an older estate, this changes your redevelopment math overnight. If you’re buying or investing, it’s worth re-underwriting ageing stock with this in mind.

Singapore is reviewing whether to lower the age singles can buy an HDB flat solo — currently locked at 35 under the Single Singapore Citizen Scheme.

So here’s the real question: if the age dropped to your age tomorrow, would you jump at the chance to buy — or are you nowhere close to ready (savings, CPF, life plans)?
