๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ๐Ÿ™๏ธ The future of cooler cities isn't more air-conditioning. It's designing cities that need less of it. As temperatures rise across Southeast Asia, thermal comfort is emerging as a critical urban issue. It affects how people move, interact, and experience the places where they live.

In a recent byline for The Business Times, Giovanni Cossu, Head of Sustainability at , explores how a "passive first" approach to urban design can help cities stay liveable in a warmer future. By leveraging shade, natural ventilation, and smart urban layouts, cities can create cooler environments that encourage social connection, support vibrant communities and enhance long-term competitiveness.

The key is to design out avoidable heat first, then cool what remains as efficiently as possible. As cities across the region adapt to rising temperatures, Singapore has an opportunity to demonstrate how climate-responsive planning can turn environmental challenges into a competitive advantage.

AI transformation is not just about technology. At , it starts with people. Over the past year, we have been building awareness and encouraging experimentation across our Singapore teams. Through initiatives such as monthly AI-themed games, recognising AI champions, and workshops for peer learning and knowledge sharing, we nurture a culture of curiosity and build confidence to embrace how AI can create value in daily work.

This year, we took the next step by partnering with DeployCo (formerly Tomoro) to bring AI visioning and hands-on experiences to our leadership team and departments. Through seven AI Experience Days attended by more than 120 Singapore-based employees, we generated over 100 use cases and 50 prototypes. These workshops helped participants strengthen AI fluency, uncover opportunities to apply AI across the business, and develop AI solutions using Codex (thanks OpenAI for the support!).

What stood out was the willingness of colleagues across the organisation to collaborate and rethink familiar processes. As we move from exploration to action, we are excited to build on this momentum and turn ideas into practical AI-powered solutions.

Ultimately, is about people. It requires a mindset shift and equipping our teams with new capabilities, so that they can harness the technology to unlock new possibilities. Stay tuned for more updates on CLDโ€™s AI journey!

CLI delivered a strong set of 1H 2026 results with operating profit up 13% YoY on the momentum of our fee income business.

Driven by our fund management platforms, fee revenue from Listed and Private Funds Management rose 48% to S$316 million, with Listed Funds up 45% to S$224 million and Private Funds up 59% to S$92 million.

How do we make sustainability part of everyday life?

At (CLD), sustainability is reflected not only in the spaces we develop, but also how people live, work and play within them. Through our ๐—™๐˜‚๐˜๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด initiative, we explore how sustainable living can be translated into meaningful experiences. In , the ๐˜๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ๐˜ญ ๐˜๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ ๐˜‰๐˜ฆ ๐˜š๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ต๐˜ข๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ข๐˜ฃ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ campaign brought this vision to life.

Following the Urban Land Institute Asia Pacific Summit in Shanghai in May, our partnership with ULI China continued through a series of industry dialogues across Chongqing, Suzhou and Shanghai. We brought together experts to explore how sustainability can be embedded throughout a building's lifecycle. These conversations examined how the can evolve to create more liveable and resilient places.

Community engagement events transformed these ideas from strategy into everyday experience. Held at residential communities, shopping malls, and business parks in seven cities across China, residents, customers and tenants participated in interactive activities that explored how small changes in daily habits can collectively contribute to a more sustainable future.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate that sustainability is not just about buildings or technology. It comes to life through the environments we create, the conversations we inspire and the choices we make every day.

What does "home" mean when you've spent more than a decade building a life overseas?

Lu Kai, General Manager of Raffles City Chongqing (RCCQ), (China), joined CNA 938โ€™s host Melanie Oliveiro to share his story of moving from Singapore to , and the vision behind one of Chongqingโ€™s most recognisable landmarks.

What began as a personal visit to Chongqing in 2013 evolved into an opportunity to build both a home and career in the dynamic megacity. Drawn to Chongqing through family and inspired by the vision for RCCQ, Lu Kai made the leap abroad and has since spent more than a decade living and working in China.

In the interview, Lu Kai reflected on what "home" means beyond geography, and how Chongqing's people, culture and distinctive character have shaped his experience. As a Singaporean working overseas, he offers a unique perspective on finding a sense of belonging away from familiar shores.

Lu Kai also shared how RCCQ pays homage to its historic location at Chaotianmen, where the Yangtze and Jialing Rivers meet, and serves as a gateway to the city's rich history and evolving future. As one of CapitaLand's landmark developments in China, RCCQ illustrates how Singapore-rooted expertise can be thoughtfully adapted to local culture, history and community.
