Happy National Day, Singapore!

SJ’s journey has been closely tied with Singapore’s for over six decades.

We're privileged to contribute to its growth since the early days - transforming skylines, creating vibrant, sustainable public housing, delivering innovative healthcare solutions, and beyond.

We’re proud to be part of the nation’s remarkable success story.

Here's to continue building a legacy of excellence, with real impact, made together.

What is it really like to be on the frontlines of a country’s border security?

Follow us around Singapore’s Woodlands Checkpoint, one of the busiest land crossings in the world with over 400,000 travellers passing through daily. From early morning briefings to night patrols, a security team of over 500 auxiliary police officers and security officers from AETOS, an SJ company, safeguards the nation's borders around the clock.

Whether it is performing vehicle checks, surveillance, or handling emergencies like extinguishing car fires and detecting illegal contraband, their vigilance and bravery is tested at every moment.

A big thank you to the men and women whose dedication and commitment protect Singapore, its communities, and way of life - 24/7, 365!

Did you know Singapore’s Punggol district used to be called Kampung Punggol, a settlement known for fishing, pig farming, seafood restaurants, and water sports?

It is sometimes referred to as “Ponggol”, which means “to toss sticks into the branches of fruit trees to make the fruits fall” in Malay.

Now, Punggol is a bustling, modern town that still honours its roots through thoughtful urban planning.

Over the last 20 years, together with Singapore’s Housing & Development Board (HDB), SJ has planned and designed more than 32,000 public residential units across 35 precincts in Punggol, including the iconic Punggol Waterway nature park completed in 2011.

SJ has played an instrumental role in shaping Singapore’s urban, industrial, and infrastructure landscape for more than five decades. Punggol is just one example of the many HDB projects we have undertaken, showcasing our commitment to enhancing urban living across Singapore.

And we’re not stopping there — together with our global collective of problem solvers, we continue to create spaces where people can thrive.

Bringing back these brilliant brick builders!

For the second year running, SJ partnered Boon Lay Secondary School for Builders of Tomorrow, our flagship CSR programme to help nurture a passion among young people to build smarter and greener for the future.

SJ architects Rick Yeo, SJ Township, and David Oktavianus, SJ Global Architecture, helped some 200 students appreciate the finer parts of designing various building typologies, and climate engineer Tsubasa Bolt helped them account for embodied and operational carbon, brick by brick.

To our young participants, stay curious and creative, and keep building on your talent and dreams!

Ammonia is gaining traction as an alternative energy source as companies and governments take concrete steps to decarbonise. The gas has long been used as an industrial chemical and nitrogen fertiliser, and it could soon also power ships and fuel aircraft operations, manufacture chemicals and generate electricity with fuel cells and combustion engines.

Challenges remain. Ammonia can be toxic at higher concentrations and presents regulatory, safety and environmental threats. In their latest technical paper, SJ’s Energy & Industrial team Tan Wooi Leong, Cliff Chuah and Himanshu Kishorkumar Majeethia explore the storage, transportation and application of ammonia.

Low carbon fuels, including hydrogen, are gaining traction as alternative energy sources to combat carbon emissions.

SJ's Energy & Industrial team Tan Wooi Leong, Derek Wong, Leong Hoi Hoong and Tay Seow Beng explore the feasibility of transporting and storing green hydrogen, supply chain considerations and the barriers for mass adoption. Critical questions include the best choice of pipeline materials, and the best corridor routes to transport green hydrogen safely.

What are you doing this Oktoberfest?

In the spirit of this iconic Bavarian festival, we celebrated camaraderie, good cheer, and of course, hearty brews and delicious sausages at a garden party at SJ Campus one evening last week. Some of our colleagues joined the live band and entertained us with Bon Jovi hits, turning our garden office into a symphony of talent. The drinks were on GCEO Sean!

Cheers to more good times at SJ Campus! Prost! 🍻
