Last week, we exercised the purchase of our second property. Honestly, it still feels unreal.
A few years ago, this felt so far away. We worried about prices, down payments, stamp duties, and whether we could even handle the monthly instalments.
I’m not a top-producing agent, my income isn’t fixed, and stability often felt like a luxury.
So, how did we actually get here?
We saved together. Tracked every expense. Invested in a mix - real estate, equities, bonds, treasury bills, never all in one basket. We skipped nicer cars, watches, and other things we wanted, and constantly reminded ourselves about delayed gratification. That said I like to thank some of my like-minded friends , who made the investment journey fun and encouraging.
Not everyone understood us. Some judged us. Some called us stingy - with ourselves and with others. Honestly, it wasn’t easy, but we kept going.
Today, it feels like it’s paying off. A bigger home for Thaddeus to run around, fun facilities for him, more space for life - a place that truly feels like the next chapter of our journey.
I especially want to thank my wife for being so understanding, for being thrifty alongside me, and for loving me even when I had very little. I promised her a bigger place in our wedding vows, and we’ve fulfilled it together. Although it isn’t a landed home yet, who knows, maybe one day we’ll get there together.
Above all, we thank God for giving us the wisdom to plan, for the grace He has shown us through every season, for providing opportunities, aligning timing, and giving us the ability to finance this purchase. One of our biggest worries is now solved, and we are deeply grateful.
This post isn’t about “making it.” It’s simply a testimony that ordinary people like us - many of whom weren’t born privileged, with patience, discipline, and a little planning, can move us forward too.
If you’ve been thinking about taking this journey but haven’t started yet, feel free to reach out. We’d be happy to share what we know, including how we structure our property portfolio, and we hope it helps bring you closer to your financial goals as a family.
