Singapore’s reviewing ministers’ pay, and the new entry-level benchmark is $1.8 million a year. They’re not all getting that immediately, but the number got me thinking. If I earned that kind of money, would I still live in my current home? Honestly? I’d probably start browsing landed houses that same night. A garden, more space, parking right outside. Very tempting. Then my property-agent brain would kick in. Hang on—do I want a bigger house, or do I want the option to stop working earlier? Maybe I’d stay put and save towards a rental property. But with Singapore’s additional stamp duties, I’d need to do the sums carefully. Overseas? Also tempting. Until the tenant calls while I’m on holiday. I think I’d keep my own home comfortable and take my time with the next purchase. Earning more doesn’t mean I have to buy immediately. But my spouse might have other ideas. What about you? Landed home first, or investment property first? And which area? Tell me in the comments.
