Imagine rejecting a home without ever stepping inside.
Not because of the layout.
Not because of the location.
Not because of the price.
But because: "Living room faces West..."!
Sometimes home seekers place too much weight on just that one factor and too little on what they'll use every single day.
Here's a personal confession:
9 years ago, I bought and lived in a west-facing living room home myself at 618 Woodlands Ave 4.
As someone whose eyes are particularly sensitive to sunlight, I understand this concern more than most!
Did the afternoon sun exist? Of course. But so did the other more important things I enjoyed every single day.
❣️The end-corner privacy.
❣️The unblocked view.
❣️The convenience of a 24-hour NTUC and halal foodcourt just 3-minutes away.
I chose that home because those benefits outweighed a couple of hours of afternoon sun. I wasn't living with west sun all day. I was living with the benefits of my home every day.
Truth is, nobody wakes up every morning thinking about their home's facing! They think about —
💟how quickly they can get to the MRT.
💟whether groceries are a short walk away.
💟where to grab dinner after a long day.
💟the view they come home to.
💟the space they get to enjoy with their family.
These are the things homeowners actually live with every day.
Every home comes with trade-offs. The key isn't finding a perfect home. It's deciding which trade-offs matter most to you.
Having said that, if you're an eligible buyer looking for a renovated 5-room flat in , with an unblocked view, within walking distance to Tampines East MRT and a stone's throw away from a 24-hour NTUC, wet market, eateries and daily conveniences, I have a beautiful 122sqm 5'i' at 461 Tampines that may be worth a look!
