Despite still being in the midst of a recession, new home sales showed little signs of slowing down. In September, developers sold 1,329 new private homes (excluding executive condominiums (ECs)), up 5.6% from 1,258 units in August, according to Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) data.

New home sales in September hit 1,329 units, a 5.6% increase from August's 1,258. Sales also continued to increase for the fifth consecutive month since the circuit breaker measures were implemented.

The skies seem brighter for Singapore’s private residential market which witnessed a surge in buyer interest as well as a hike in sales volume during the third quarter of 2020.

Singaporean home purchases hit a new high in the third quarter of 2020, accounting for 80.7% of total non-landed home buyers with 4,754 sales, according to an OrangeTee and Tie report.

Christine Sun, Head of Research and Consultancy at OrangeTee and Tie noted that people were more acutely aware of the need to acquire larger unit “to set up a dedicated workspace or small office at home”.

The owners of a freehold landed residential site at 5 Oxley Rise are expected to put up the plum site on sale in a few months, with industry watchers expecting the asking price to hover above $250 million, reported The Business Times (BT).

The 117,230 sq ft site is owned by the seven sons of the late Cheong Eak Chong – founder of Hong Fok Corporation and Tian Teck group. A two-storey bungalow sits on the site, whose last resident, matriarch Lim Ghee, died in February.
