Court adjourns case of the murder of businesswoman Rebecca Anyon over the absence of the lawyer of the accused

Juba High Court has on Wednesday adjourned hearing in the case of Longar Akok who is charged with killing his wife and another man in Juba in June, to Monday due to absence of his lawyer.

Rebecca Anyon and a police officer Akech Manut were shot dead in June when Longar found them together at a pub.

Following the deadly incident, Akok handed himself over to the Malakia Police Station.

The accused is charged with premeditated murder, possession of a weapon, and serious harm according to 2008 South Sudan Penal Act.

The first hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, but Akok’s defense lawyer did not show up in court, prompting his second attorney to request the presiding Judge to postpone the session to Monday next week.

: Basketball Federation President is violating the Federation's constitution.

South Sudanese think that, I am opposing President of South Sudan Basketball Federation, Luol Deng, but no, I am not opposing him. I am trying to brings him closer to the constitution and work inline with what the constitution says and leave wrong advices given to him by people with personal interest.

To make my point clear. I don’t want President Luol to step down, while he is the only man who have really put smiles on our faces as South Sudanese. He deserves appreciation and congratulations for putting South Sudan on the world map.

I was calling him to know at the end of the day, he will still face the same law.
“Another violation of South Sudan Basketball Federation’s Constitution” by Luol Deng, the President of SSBF.

South Sudan Basketball Federation constitution, Article 24, duties of Finance Secretary, subsections 13.51 says; the secretary of finance shall generate the revenue through sponsorship, improve budgeting process, supervises and monitor the financial management and to ensure implementation of the policy and decision of the executive.

With that legal statement above, the President acted out of the laws and the General Assembly of the federation is watching and President Luol will face the consequences of violating the constitution.

The Federation constitution details everything and separate all the works and powers. And President Luol with his team, decided to put constitution aside and use their own words to act without consulting members of General Assembly, which is the supreme body that oversees the performance of the federation executives.

I am arguing MTN telecommunications, to seek legal opinions from the legal advisors of the federation.

Luol and his team are working for the down fall of South Sudan Basketball Federation’s and strengthen his initiatives;Luol Deng Foundation and Manut Bol Basketball Court located inside University of Juba. With all these violations made. It's a clear indication of destroying the national institution.

in 2021, Zain offerred to sponsor local Basketball tournaments in the country. The sponsorship deal was nullified by Luol and Sport Minister, Albino Bol Dhuei. Why did the allow “MTN” to sponsor Federation while the refuse sponsorship of zain last time. It is clear indication, that Luol mobilize more money in the name of federation and the institutions is not benefiting from it.

Attached are the Zain Cheque (check) being suspended by the two brothers, Hon. Minister, Dr. Albino Bol and President Luol Deng.

Inclusion; I am asking the President to put the deal on hold and call general assembly meetings for endorsement of that great sponsorship. Or, he can lift the suspension of Finance Secretary to sign the documents according to the constitution you are operating.

MTN gives SSP65 million cheque to South Sudan Men Basketball team

MTN South Sudan today handed over a cheque of 65 million South Sudanese Pounds to South Sudanese Men Basketball team.

The cheque was handed to South Sudan Basketball Federation president, Luol Deng as part of the sponsorship deal.

MTN posted this after giving the cheque:

Earlier today MTN Group Senior Vice President Ebenezer Asante Handed over a cheque of 65,000,000 Million SSP Equivalent to 100,000 USD to South Sudan Basketball Federation President Luol Deng as the Sponsor of the National Basketball Team 'Bright Stars'.

MTN announced last month that they will sponsor the men basketball team that has been performing tremendously in the past games.

A man identified as Garang Dhal and a 16 year old relative named Achol were on Monday morning found dead in a car in Juba.

The man was found in driver’s seat while the girl was in the back seat. No bruises on their bodies but only had foam in their mouths.

The circumstance surrounding their deaths is unclear with police saying they have launched an investigation into the matter.

The car was found parked along Hai Referendum Road in Juba. Witnesses say the car had been parked since 10am on Sunday.

Governor Aleu stop his convoy to motivate business woman riding motorcycle

Governor Aleu Ayieny Aleu stopped his convoy to briefly chat with a retail business woman carrying goods from Kuajok to Alek Payam of Gogrial West County as a motivation.

The most resilient mother Awien Akol transport goods from Kuajok to his remote village to sell the goods to the locals.

Awien told governor Aleu this small scale business is the only option to bring food on table for her children and paying their school fees.

In one of these pictures shared by governor's office, Awien was given sum of 100,000 SSP, an amount equivalent to about 150 US dollars as a motivation for her hard work.

Governor Aleu was returning after his one day visit to Wunrok Payam in Twic County where he accessed the floods affected persons and security situation in the area.

Governor Aleu appealed to the Presidency to declare an "environmental emergency order" in Warrap State to pave way for humanitarian intervention in rescuing flood affected persons.

Aleu also appealed to the humanitarian actors and well wishers to quickly intervene.

"On my way to Wau couple of days ago, I had seen heavy floods that has cut-off road, displacing people. I also heard stories of snake bite, children drew into waters, houses collapsed". Aleu added.

The Unprecedented downpour hit a very corner of Warrap State terribly submerging almost everything.

His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit met on Monday in his office, with Professor John Akec, the Vice Chancellor of University of Juba.

This meeting was purposely held to brief the President on the situation of University of Juba. During the discussion, Prof. Akec highlighted the current status of learning, the accomplishments and ongoing challenges the University is facing.

He also informed H.E. the President about increase admissions of many students to public universities. Noting that this year, the University of Juba will graduate 7,000 students. “the number of intakes have increased and we are working to expand the number of lecture halls in our facility.” Prof. Akec said.

They also discussed the need for public universities to engage with government institutions in revising the policies that will improve the economy, agriculture and education system. To add to the current development plans in South Sudan.

In his final remarks to the press after the meeting, Professor Akec said they had a fruitful meeting and hopes there will be steady improvements in the state of affairs of public universities across the country.

South Sudan Ambassador to the Republic of Kenya, Amb. Chol Mawut led a team from the South Sudan Embassy this morning to pay a courtesy visit to Miss Deaf Africa, Josephine Kiden who is currently nursing gunshot wounds at a Nairobi Hospital. Ms. Kiden was injured in her upper arm from a stray bullet meant to scare away Toronto Boys around Konyonyo.

Amb. Chol revealed to the media shortly after the visit that Miss Kiden is recovering well.
Josephine and the mother requested Amb Chol Mawut to send their warmest appreciation to Dr. Marial Benjamin and respect to H: E Salva Kiir Mayardit president of the republic of south Sudan and the people of south Sudan for standing with them in their difficult time.

Kiden, thanks President Salva Kiir for his kindness and caring intervention to bring her to Nairobi for further medical attention.

Josephine was flown to Nairobi, Kenya on Saturday by the office of President through Dr. Marial Benjamin the Minister in the Office of the President after she was wounded in Juba on Wednesday.
