Bari Community Calls for Protection of Traditional Culture, Praises Organizers for Promoting Authentic Performances
Members of the Bari community have called for greater respect and protection of their traditional cultural practices, following public discussions surrounding a picture from a recent cultural event that attracted criticism on social media.
Some commentators questioned the availability of Bari traditional songs during the event, but cultural advocates explained that Bari communities have historically valued live performances, where songs, dances, and cultural expressions are presented directly by community members rather than depending mainly on recorded music.
They emphasized that traditional performances remain an important part of Bari identity, serving as a way of preserving history, passing knowledge between generations, and strengthening community bonds.
Cultural supporters also praised the organizing committee for making what they described as a strong and courageous decision aimed at promoting genuine Bari culture and maintaining traditional values.
According to cultural advocates, the purpose of such events should not be to replace indigenous practices with modern forms of entertainment, but rather to celebrate and protect the community’s heritage while allowing younger generations to understand and appreciate their roots.
They urged Bari communities to continue supporting cultural events that promote authenticity and encourage participation from elders, youth, and cultural groups. They also called on organizers of future Bari events, whether celebrations or mourning ceremonies, to make decisions that preserve cultural dignity and identity.
The discussion has renewed calls for communities to take an active role in protecting traditional customs, with supporters stressing that culture remains a key foundation of unity, identity, and belonging.
