จาก "ความชอบดูแล" สู่ "พื้นที่แลกเปลี่ยน"
โจทย์ที่เราได้รับมาจากลูกสาวที่กลับจากเมลเบิร์น คือการสร้างพื้นที่ที่สะท้อนถึง "นิสัยชอบดูแลและบริการ" ของคนในบ้าน โดยขยายจากจุดรวมพลธรรมดา ให้กลายเป็นสถานที่ที่สามารถ เพิ่มกิจกรรม และใช้ประโยชน์จากพื้นที่สวนและไร่ผสมผสานอันกว้างใหญ่
ก่อนจะเริ่มงาน เราประหลาดใจกับด่านซ้าย ด้วย อากาศเย็นสบายเกือบตลอดทั้งปี ทำให้ที่นี่มีศักยภาพเป็นหมุดหมายการพักผ่อนที่น่าสนใจ นอกจากนี้ยังมี ความสงบ เงียบ ผู้คนเป็นมิตร และทัศนียภาพของภูเขาที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ ซึ่งเป็น บริบทของพื้นที่ ที่เราตั้งใจจะเก็บรักษาและนำเสนอต่อผู้มาเยือน
แนวคิดการออกแบบ: การบังคับทิศทางสู่การซึมซับบรรยากาศ
หลักการออกแบบของเราคือการให้ สถาปัตยกรรมทำหน้าที่เป็นตัวนำพาและถ่ายทอดบรรยากาศ ผ่านการกำหนดมุมมอง (View Framing) และการจัดลำดับพื้นที่ (Spatial Sequence) เพื่อให้ผู้มาเยือนได้สัมผัสเรื่องราวและบริบทดั้งเดิมของพื้นที่ก่อนที่จะพบกับส่วนที่เป็นไฮไลต์
1. การกำหนดทางเข้าและโอบล้อมพื้นที่เดิม (Block and Reveal)
ทางเข้า: เราออกแบบทางเข้าให้ค่อย ๆ บีบทางเข้าให้แคบลง และ "บล็อก" มุมมอง ส่วนของบ่อน้ำขนาดใหญ่ไว้ก่อน
พื้นที่แรก: ผู้เยี่ยมชมจะถูกนำไปสู่ สวนหลังอาคาร ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่ไร่ดั้งเดิมของเจ้าของก่อน การจัดลำดับเช่นนี้ทำหน้าที่ เชื่อมความรู้สึก และอธิบายถึง เบื้องหลังที่มา ของโครงการ เป็นการซึมซับบรรยากาศของพื้นที่เดิมที่เจ้าของรักและหวงแหน
2. การเปิดเผยไฮไลต์ (The Unveiling)
เคาน์เตอร์บาร์: เมื่อเดินเข้ามาสั่งเครื่องดื่ม ผู้เยี่ยมชมจะมองเห็น สวนปาล์ม หรือพื้นที่ไร่ด้านหลังเคาน์เตอร์ ซึ่งยังคงเป็นการเชื่อมโยงกับธรรมชาติและบริบทเดิม
จุดเปลี่ยน: เมื่อสั่งเครื่องดื่มเสร็จและหันกลับมา ตัวอาคารจะ "เผยตัว" สู่พื้นที่ไฮไลต์อย่างสมบูรณ์ นั่นคือ บ่อน้ำขนาดใหญ่ที่มีเกาะกลาง พร้อมด้วย ลาน Outdoor ที่เปิดกว้าง
3. สถาปัตยกรรมที่กลมกลืน (Harmonious Shape)
รูปทรงอาคาร: ตัวอาคารถูกออกแบบให้มี ความสูงไม่สูงเกินไป เป็นแนวราบและ เนินไปตาม Shape ของภูเขา ที่โอบล้อมอยู่ด้านหลัง การออกแบบนี้ทำให้คาเฟ่ดูกลมกลืนและเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของภูมิทัศน์ ไม่ได้โดดเด่นจนกลบธรรมชาติ
ฟังก์ชัน: ลาน Outdoor ถูกออกแบบให้เป็นพื้นที่อิสระที่ผู้คนสามารถเลือก นั่ง นอน ปูเสื่อ กับพื้นได้อย่างเป็นกันเอง สะท้อนถึงความรู้สึกผ่อนคลายและใกล้ชิดธรรมชาติ
ประสบการณ์ที่ส่งต่อ: จากบริบทเจ้าของถึงลูกค้า
วิธีการคิดงานนี้ถูกออกแบบมาเพื่อสร้างประสบการณ์ที่สมบูรณ์แบบทั้งสำหรับ ลูกค้าคาเฟ่ และสะท้อน บริบทของเจ้าของ ที่ต้องการให้ผู้คนได้พักผ่อนและแลกเปลี่ยน
การซึมซับแบบย้อนกลับ: ลูกค้าคาเฟ่จะได้ ซึมซับบรรยากาศของพื้นที่เดิมก่อน (สวนและไร่) ก่อนที่จะก้าวไปสู่ พื้นที่ใหม่ของคาเฟ่ (มุมเปิดกว้างมองวิวสระน้ำ)
พื้นที่กิจกรรม: บ่อน้ำขนาดใหญ่และเกาะกลางทำหน้าที่เป็น กิมมิค และ ลานกิจกรรม ที่ยืดหยุ่น เช่น อีเวนท์ขนาดเล็ก, ลานกางเต็นท์, หรือคอนเสิร์ตขนาดเล็ก
ความเงียบสงบ: การจัดวางองค์ประกอบทั้งหมดส่งเสริมให้เกิดช่วงเวลาแห่งความสงบ เช่น การได้นั่งพิงหลัง นอนอ่านหนังสือ หรือเพียงแค่แลกเปลี่ยนบทสนทนาอย่างเงียบสงบในบรรยากาศที่เปลี่ยนไปตามช่วงเวลาของวันตั้งแต่แสงธรรมชาติจนถึงแสงสลัวยามเย็น
เราเชื่อว่าการออกแบบที่ "บังคับการมองทิศทาง" และ "Block View เพื่อเปิดความรู้สึก" นี้ จะทำให้ผู้มาเยือนได้สัมผัสเรื่องราวเบื้องหลังของที่นี่อย่างลึกซึ้ง และได้พักผ่อนอย่างแท้จริงในบรรยากาศอันน่าประหลาดใจของด่านซ้าย ......แล้วพบกันต่อ phase ต่อไป
From "A Family's Care" to "A Shared Space"
This project in Dan Sai, Loei Province, began with a simple brief from the owner's daughter, recently returned from Melbourne: to transform a family gathering point into a vibrant café that reflects the family's deep-rooted "spirit of care and hospitality." We aimed to utilize the expansive mixed-use garden and farm on the property.
Dan Sai surprised us with its cool, year-round climate and atmosphere of tranquility and rich, mountainous scenery—a context we were determined to preserve and present.
The Design Concept: Controlled Sightlines, Deep Immersion
Our architectural approach is to let the building itself guide and narrate the experience through a careful sequence of spaces (Spatial Sequence) and precise View Framing. The visitor experiences the site’s origin before meeting its highlight.
1. Block and Reveal: The Journey In
The entry is deliberately narrowed, initially "blocking" the view of the large water feature. Visitors are first led to the back garden, the family’s original farmland. This sequence establishes an emotional connection and explains the project's roots, letting guests fully absorb the serene, existing context.
2. The Unveiling: The Highlight
The main structure (the café core) acts as the turning point. As you order a drink, your view is framed by the palm garden at the back counter. Once you turn around, the building "reveals itself" fully, opening up to the majestic large pond with a central island and the expansive outdoor terrace.
3. Harmonious Shape
The architecture maintains a low profile, following the gentle slope and shape of the surrounding mountains. This blending ensures the café complements the landscape rather than dominates it. The outdoor areas are designed for free repose, encouraging guests to sit, lie down, or use mats directly on the terrace, fostering a deep connection with nature.
The Visitor Experience
The design ensures customers absorb the quiet essence of the original farm first, before moving into the new, open view of the pond. The large pond and its island serve as a flexible event space for small concerts, camping, or local markets, reflecting the family's desire for a place of shared activity and exchange.
This architectural strategy—using the structure to "block and then open the view"—creates moments of true reflection and rest, allowing visitors to feel the full, tranquil charm of Dan Sai.
