Hua Hin Airport is a small international airport located in the province of Prachuap Khiri Khan in Thailand. It served only to charter flights and the needs of local aviation schools until officially adopting its first regular operations in May 2018.
Malaysia-based AirAsia Berhad was the first airline operator to introduce flights to Hua Hin Airport, connecting the small town to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia with a flight frequency of four times a week.
Hua Hin Airport is only 15 minutes away from town center and 300 kilometers away from Bangkok. Many people usually travel to the district by road, making the airport underused and prompting airlines Nok Air, Lion Air, and Siam General Aviation Company Ltd. (SGA Airlines) to suspend operations of chartered flights.
Expansion Program
Last year, the Department of Airports - operator of Hua Hin Airport, announced plans to spend 3.5 billion baht over the next five years to upgrade and expand Hua Hin Airport.
The department said the expansion program included developing the existing terminal and adding a second terminal, and widening the hangar space and the runway. Once complete, the airport’s passenger capacity is expected to increase by tenfold to three million yearly.
Facilities
Hua Hin Airport is equipped with necessary airport facilities such as a ticket counter for flight-bookings, toilets, rent-a-car booth, an information counter, and coffee and snack stalls.
However, it does not have facilities such as money exchange booths, dining areas, and retail outlets.
