In mid-2025, our company had the opportunity to participate in a masterplan and architecture design competition for an international school in Bangkok. The architectural team set a key design challenge:
How do we design a world-class learning environment?
From this challenge, we developed four design concepts:
1. Decoding Oxford architecture (Gothic style) that reflects the school's academic heritage.
2. Integration of Modernity & Innovation: Design that responds to learning in the digital age
- Flexible Spaces: Design classrooms and common areas that can be adapted for various uses, group learning.
- Technological Integration: Design infrastructure to support cutting-edge technology in all areas.
3. Student-Centred Environment: Design to promote well-being, inspiration, and all-round development of students
- Well-being: Emphasize natural light, good ventilation, green spaces, and connection with nature.
- Community Spaces: Design common areas that promote interactions between students of different grades, staff, and parents.
4. Sustainability: Design with environmental considerations
- Passive Design: Utilize natural shade, building orientation to reduce heat, and natural ventilation to reduce reliance on air conditioning.
- Energy Efficiency: Select energy-saving materials and systems.
- Water Management: Manage rainwater and use water efficiently.
- Local Materials: Consider using appropriate local materials.
