More direct flights to Tobago 🙌🏾
Tobago is set to expand its international tourism reach following an announcement by the Chief Secretary regarding advanced negotiations for new direct flight routes.
During the 2026/2027 Post Budget Press Conference, Chief Secretary Farley Augustine confirmed that active negotiations are underway where "Caribbean Airlines is concerned." According to the Chief Secretary, the assembly has "finally begun to see some movement" which will "result in some additional direct flights coming to Tobago from new source markets."
The administration is reportedly pushing for these direct flights to commence "as early as towards the end of next month." Mr Augustine noted that the final dates would be announced jointly by himself and the Minister of Transportation once they "finalise the arrangements."
Detailing the proposed routes, the Chief Secretary shared that negotiations are at an advanced stage for "direct flights coming from Toronto to Tobago" as well as "Ogle Guyana to Tobago" and a "Miami direct to Tobago." These expansions form part of a broader strategy with "some additional airlines for additional North American direct flights to Tobago."
Explaining the shift in marketing strategy, Mr Augustine stated, "what we are essentially doing is opening Tobago to the North American market." He highlighted that "North America makes up a substantial part of the source market in the Caribbean as opposed to the traditional UK and European market that Tobago has been stuck in for a long time."
To support this transition, the Chief Secretary revealed that "funding for the marketing and so on of those flights have already been released to TITA" since the month of May. The assembly is currently awaiting directives from the Minister of Transportation to "close this arrangement" and jointly announce the official start dates.
