Freeport Man Gets Bail After Being Charged with Fraud

A Freeport man was granted bail with surety in the sum of $120,000 by a Justice of the Peace, after he was charged with Obtaining Goods valued at $19,500 by False Pretences, this week.

KIMRAJ NANDLAL, was charged with the offence when he appeared before JP Carl Dattoo, on Wednesday 19th August, 2026.

He is expected to appear before a Master of the High Court on Friday 21st August, 2026.

Reports indicate that on July 3rd, 2025, a man allegedly obtained glass products and other materials valued at $19,500 from a business owned by a Sangre Grande victim.

It is alleged that the suspect represented to the victim that payment for the goods would be made by way of an online bank transfer.

Based on this representation, the suspect subsequently arranged for a representative to collect the goods.

The purported online payment was never received. The suspect then provided a post-dated cheque in settlement of the outstanding amount. The cheque was accepted by the victim and deposited. However, it was returned as dishonoured.

All attempts by the victim to recover the payment, proved unsuccessful.

The matter was subsequently reported to the Fraud Squad (East) Office, and an investigation commenced by Cpl (Ag.) Thomas.

On August 17th, 2026, a coordinated, intelligence-led operation was conducted under the direction of Snr. Supt. Jackman, W/Supt. Theodore-Persad, and ASP Thomas and under the supervision of Insp. Bachoo and Cpl Liverpool.

During the exercise, officers proceeded to the Central Division, where they arrested a male suspect at a Freeport address.

Nandlal was charged with the offence by Cpl (Ag.) Thomas on August 18th, 2026, following consultation with Snr. Supt. Jackman, W/Supt. Theodore-Persad, ASP Thomas, Insp. Bachoo and Legal Officer, Sgt. Bassarath.

PUBLIC ADVISORY: Emerging Real Estate Scam
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) wishes to alert members of the public to a new and concerning real estate scam that has recently come to our attention.

This fraudulent scheme is being executed through fake pages which mimic legitimate real estate businesses. Perpetrators are copying videos and images from authentic listings and reposting them with altered captions designed to appear highly attractive—often advertising properties at significantly below market value. Victims are further enticed as the scammer promises a refund, should they view the property and not purchase.

When interested individuals make contact, scammers engage them via Facebook Messenger and offer an opportunity to “view” the property, requesting payment in advance for this service. Once banking details are shared, victims are encouraged to make a deposit and provide proof of payment via screenshot.

Upon receipt of the funds, the scammers immediately block the victim, effectively severing all communication. As interactions are conducted solely through social media platforms, victims are often left without any verifiable contact information, making it difficult to identify or trace the perpetrators.

The TTPS strongly advises the public to exercise caution when engaging in online real estate transactions. Never send money to unknown individuals or entities without verifying their legitimacy through independent and reliable means.

Anyone who believes they may have been targeted or has fallen victim to this scam is urged to report the matter to the nearest police station.
