Hifadhi Zanzibar: Preserving the Future of Zanzibar

The built heritage of Zanzibar is of exceptional universal value. It is a source of identity and cohesion for its inhabitants and it makes Stone Town attractive as tourism destination, Zanzibar’s most important driver for economic development. It is of eminent importance to maintain it well, but it also offers major opportunities for making Ston

e Town a thriving centre for all, essential for a healthy future. Hifadhi Zanzibar is contributing to this healthy development of the city, by acquiring, restoring and cost-effectively utilising monumental buildings in a sustainable way. Hifadhi Zanzibar manages its property in a profitable way, not with the aim to maximise dividend, but to reinvest in new property, making an ever-increasing positive impact on the state of Zanzibar’s built heritage. Step by step Hifadhi makes Stone Town a more attractive urban environment, meanwhile stimulating other owners to follow suit. Hifadhi Zanzibar contributes to a thriving and inclusive city, with commerce for all markets and residential space for everyone. Only then, Stone Town can maintain its position as world famous tourist attraction and keep its role as driver for economic development of Zanzibar.

It was an honour and pleasure to introduce the new Dutch ambassador to Tanzania to Majestic Culture Hub, a project that we are developing with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, with ZIFF, Sauti za Busara, re(Claim) Women Space and support of many others. While the contractor has started with the scaffolding, our team with Khwemah Sykes and even Paul Morel from Stadsherstel Amsterdam present, has been working intensively with the contractor to prepare the works. We are excited that the real work begins and happy to share this with the ambassador. If you are around, please feel welcome to visit the temporal hub where more information about the project is available and events are organised as a precursor. Karibu wote!
