Dmytro Shchebetyuk, public activist and founder of the NGO Dostupno.UA, which advocates for accessibility and inclusion in Ukraine, visited Kharkiv to film the YouTube show Vidkryttia (“Discovery”). The project aims to collect stories about unity, creativity, and inclusion.

Among the locations selected by the team was the Lazar Rosenfeld House, one of Alter Development’s projects. The building serves as an example of a space designed with the principles of physical accessibility and inclusivity in mind.

Lazar Rosenfeld`s House is an early 20th-century building that, despite decades of neglect and structural collapse, has been brought back to life through careful reconstruction.

The project combines accurate façade restoration with the adaptation of interior spaces for contemporary use. New structural solutions made it possible to preserve the building’s character without compromising its proportions or architectural logic.

This project demonstrates how restoration can be both a sustainable and economically viable approach to urban development.

The Ukrainian media ЛЮК has released a documentary film about Kharkiv’s architectural heritage and the people who care deeply about preserving it.

The film explores why architecture matters to society, what exactly we lose along with historic buildings, and how we can develop a different attitude toward these spaces — one that is more attentive, responsible, and humane.
The documentary features examples of careful restoration, revitalisation, and the people already working to ensure that Kharkiv does not lose its unique identity.

Taras Doronin, CEO of Alter Development, is among speakers appearing in the film.

We believe that preserving architectural heritage is an investment in the future development of cities.

By restoring landmark buildings and adapting them for contemporary use, we:
– maintain urban identity
– set professional standards for the market
– demonstrate that heritage can remain economically sustainable

Alter works not only with the physical fabric of buildings, but also with the continuity of architectural heritage as part of sustainable urban development.

Alter Development is a Ukrainian development company originating from Kharkiv.

We specialise in the restoration and revitalisation of architectural and historical landmarks. Each project is approached as part of a broader strategy to return significant buildings to active urban life.

Alter operates at a deliberate pace, prioritising considered decisions over speed. Teams and contractors are selected carefully, and once construction is completed, equal attention is given to selecting future tenants — bringing together projects and people who share compatible values.

Each project emerges at the intersection of history and the present. When working with historic and architectural landmarks, Alter conducts thorough analysis and archival research to restore buildings as closely as possible to their original condition. At the same time, the company develops an economic model that ensures the long-term commercial viability of each property.
This approach functions both as a business strategy and as an instrument of long-term impact.

Alter works not only with the physical fabric of buildings, but also with the continuity of architectural heritage as part of sustainable urban development.
