Otherwise, trust news sources with no agenda, the ones that put facts above all else. If a news source has been around for 50 or 100 years, it’s probably going to give you better information than AngryGrandpaShouting.com. Check the BBC, the Globe & Mail, the Sydney Morning Herald, any of the top-5 U.S. newspapers, or any independent news source you can find in your own country. Despite what some on the right think, NPR’s non-profit model makes it more reliable than most—without all the name-calling and anger. Plus this is one time I would recommend Wikipedia for the country counts and facts behind them.

Obviously there are no “Should I travel?” decisions going on now as we’ve gone to the world pandemic stage. Every country is on lockdown now most have shut their borders in and out. So what can you do besides stay at home and watch TV? Well, you can make travel plans for the future, get some things done you’ve been putting off, and go for a long walk in nature if you’re allowed outside where you live. I’m leaving this up as a snapshot of what things looked like before all hell broke loose. But now you need to unless you’re in an area where the infection spread rate is declining and is below 1:1

“Spend some time traveling around the country before you decide where to live,” says says Philippa Kaye, founder of Indian Experiences, a travel consulting company. “I started traveling around India 22 years ago and there are still places I have on my list to get to that I haven’t visited yet.”“Goa has a magical and unique culture,” says Anna. “It’s India’s smallest, most laid back and westernized state and you can still see, feel and taste the influences from nearly 500 years of Portuguese rule and the hippie past which create an intoxicating and captivating blend of East and West. There’s really nowhere else in the world like it.” India’s version of beach paradise comes with a reasonable price tag too. “When I first lived in Goa in 2014-15 I was living on about $425 a month (when sharing with one other person). Nowadays it’s more like $700 per month because prices have gone up and also because I like more comfort and Western food.”

Living in India may not have the same universal appeal as moving to Ecuador, Portugal, or Thailand does, but it might belong on the short list for adventurous people who love a good value. India can be one of the cheapest places to live in the world if you do it right and for some nationalities anyway, it’s got one of the best long-term residency visas in the world.

The latest version also features a “what’s around me” function, which will tell you where emergency offices vetted by Allianz are in relation to your location. These include urgent care locations, police stations, and embassies.

Travel has gotten a lot more hazardous lately and we’ve seemingly got 100 more scenarios to plan for to stay healthy and safe. It’s clear that we need to invest a bit more time and money to address the “What if?” questions when planning a vacation. You can add a layer of travel safety on your phone by installing the right apps and loading the right documents. That way you’ve got options and answers at your fingertips.

Estonia, which has an attractive e-visa program, requires proof of €3,504 per month, prices are only about 23% lower than the U.S. average, plus it’s freezing most of the year. (Sign me up for a summer visit though: it looks beautiful.) The warmer Portuguese island of Madeira announced a “digital nomad village,” but starting in February of 2021, when very few sane people wanted to get on a packed plane across an ocean to get there.

Traditional media editors love this kind of story because it ties into so many current trends: Covid challenges, workplace changes, and how travel will be different in the future for a start. So you’ve probably seen lots of links in your social media feed each time one of these announcements comes out.

Restaurants and coffee shops. There are a few sit-down places to eat along Las Palmas and a couple on Palma Real as well. Oddly, two of the restaurants are birria places for goat stew and goat tacos. La Capilla de Lupita offers some other options, including a set meal of the day that’s less than five bucks. There are two places serving hotdogs and burgers, a bakery, a hot wings place, and a few more within a few blocks. Some of them serve beer. There are also two coffee shops, one on each main street.

Most travelers, moneyed or budget, come into Mexico via Cancun, Mexico City, or Puerto Vallarta. For the first and third options, you probably won’t want to stick around there too long if you’re traveling on the cheap. There are greener pastures—or perhaps I should say brighter beaches—down the road. So if you head to PV on the west coast, eventually you’ll probably end up at the Puerto Vallarta bus station.
