Along with all of the above positive, my boyfriend put an ad in the local paper for me! Cheeky bu**er! Really hoping it generates lots of interest and repeat business. I am going to be using some of my professional shots to get flyers made up and I will be distributing them through my local area advertising my market stalls in the coming months.

Have any of you used flyers as a means of advertising? Do you have any suggestions for me? I am a sucker for junk mail so I read everything that comes into our little letterbox. But I know a lot of people just toss whats in their letter box.

Lets be honest here… I have had a terrible week!

Insomnia has overtaken my life and my determination to stay in a routine of getting up by 7am is causing me to have very little sleep. My days have been filled with a lack of desire, inspiration and motivation. But this is my business, this is my baby and I need push on, especially leading up to the Christmas period. No time for weaklings here.

On Friday I sold 4 sets of my Koala earrings! Such a beautiful gift for international friends and family for Christmas. If this wasn’t positive reinforcement enough, I also received quite a large order for a birthday party coming up. I received a new enquiry about a children’s birthday party. Which reminds me I need to get samples underway! I should start writing a to-do list!

Polymer clay crafting is not a cheap hobby, especially for Pinoys. From materials to shipping, everything related to polymer clay come at a hefty price. In order to support this hobby, it’s a good idea to make a profit out of selling clay creations.

But is it worth it? Can a Pinoy crafter make a decent profit out of this sculpting hobby?

I say with hardwork, perseverance and a lot creative ideas is it possible! Here are 3 ways to profit from sculpting and baking polymer clay.

As an artist, you will have charm ideas that you want created and sold. But unless you’re super popular or a really good seller, you won’t be able to sell everything that you create in the fastest time possible. So, you need to accept custom works.

There are so many other great channels to check out. There definitely weren't this many options when I first started out.

In terms of books, I have almost every miniature food making polymer clay book out there including all of Angie Scarr’s books which in my opinion, are some of the best for making miniatures.

But of course there are a ton of new books for making other types of polymer clay items like beads, jewelry, making faux gemstones, making fantasy creatures and sculptures or learning caning methods, so it really just depends on what your focus is.

Another challenge is, while it’s not the most time consuming craft compared to something like crocheting or knitting, it can still be time consuming.

Because it’s just clay and not something more valuable like gold or silver jewelry, the perceived value of it is never going to be super high.

There’s a fine line you have to walk between making a product that is priced appropriately for what it is.

So for example, you don’t necessarily want to spend hours and hours making a clay product that doesn’t have a high perceived value, because then you can’t price it appropriately and get paid for your time making the product.

It’s Fun!
It’s so much fun to play with clay.

If you’re a creative person, it’s very satisfying to work with clay and to create something completely from scratch with your hands.

It’s the best feeling ever.

Material Cost
The materials and supplies are relatively cheap and easy to find and buy.

Most craft stores and online shops sell polymer clay products, and a 2 oz bar of clay costs under $3.

No Really, You Can Do ANYTHING With It
You can do so many things with clay.

You can mix it with other materials to get different colors, textures, you can even turn it from like a pliable play doh consistency to more like a creamy frosting.

You can do mixed media art with it and use it with other mediums to make something truly unique and cool.

You can chop it, roll it, shape it free form with your hands, it’s really quite a fun craft.
