Did you know that a Ukrainian Christmas Eve dinner must be made up of twelve vegetarian dishes? 🍲

Although each family is different, people often make varenyky (dumplings that can be stuffed with anything from savoury suerkraut to sweet cottage cheese), varied pickles, mushrooms, bread, uzvar (a non-alcoholic drink made from dried pears and berries) and of course, kutia— a sweet dish made up different grains, raisins, nuts and honey. 🍯 🌰 🫖

The twelve dishes represent the twelve months of the year. ☀️
