🐣🌸 Easter in Ukraine🇺🇦

Easter is one of the most important and cherished holidays in Ukraine. It’s a time of faith, renewal, and family traditions passed down for generations.

Families prepare p***a (traditional Easter bread), decorate pysanky (beautifully painted eggs), and gather baskets filled with food to be blessed in church. Ukrainians following the Orthodox calendar celebrate Easter on April 12 this year, while those following the Gregorian calendar celebrate on April 5.

On Easter morning, people will greet each other with “Khrystos Voskres!” — “Christ is Risen!” — and respond with “Voistynu Voskres!” — “Indeed, He is Risen!” — a timeless expression of hope, renewal, and the promise of new life.

Even now, Easter in Ukraine is about resilience — holding on to faith, culture, and community no matter the circumstances.

❗ Important update for foreigners in Ukraine (2026)

If you are a foreigner or a stateless person living in Ukraine and your residence permit expired or should have been exchanged after 24 February 2022, please read this carefully.
In 2022, due to martial law, Ukraine adopted Cabinet of Ministers Resolution №1202, which allowed temporary and permanent residence permits to remain valid even after their official expiration date.
This decision helped thousands of foreigners stay legally in Ukraine during extremely uncertain times.
However, this “flexible” period is now coming to an end.
🔔 What changed in 2026?
On 5 February 2026, the government adopted Resolution №141, which finally introduced clear and mandatory deadlines.
👉 Foreigners and stateless persons (except citizens of the Russian Federation) whose permits fell under Resolution №1202 must apply for an exchange of their temporary residence permit within 90 calendar days from the date the new rules come into force — starting from 5 May 2026.

⚠️ If you do not submit documents within this period:

-your residence permit loses legal force and as good as a regular plastic

-it can no longer be used as a basis for legal stay or re-entry into Ukraine

-future legalization may become much more complicated

In short:
What was temporarily tolerated before now requires action.
