POWER TO BECOME WISER.
TEXT:Psalms119:98-100 (NLT)
♦️♦️Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for your commands are my constant guide. Yes, I have more insight than my teachers, for I am always thinking of your decrees. I am even wiser than my elders, for I have kept your commandments.
WISER THAN MY ENEMIES (V98)
♦️An enemy is a person who actively opposes someone or something.
♦️Human beings have only one enemy, ultimately: the one called Satan the accuser/adversary. But he operates through human beings or any body available.
So all those activities of the devil that are against us are our enemies not fellow human beings.
♦️But those who have given themselves to be used of the devil have made themselves enemies of God and of His people.
♦️In wickedness, many of them are wise and prudent as to natural things, wiser in worldly things and political matters than the children of light, and often lay deep schemes and take crafty counsel against the saints.
♦️But God's children by attending to the word and commands of God, and being under his direction and counsel, counterwork the designs of their enemies, and overturn their schemes and measures, which are brought to confusion.
♦️The word of God makes us wiser when they are ever with us.♦️Through our devotion to God's Word we learn to see life as God sees it, value what He values and love what He loves. We attune ourselves to the thoughts of God.
♦️The people of God are wiser than worldly people in the best things; 👉in the affair of salvation,👉 in things relating to a future state(eternity), and their happiness there. They attain unto this wisdom through the Word of God, which is written for their learning; through the Scriptures, which are able to make men wise to salvation: ♦️God's Word contains the spiritual principles that will help us avoid many sorrows, pitfalls and tragedies brought on by wrong decisions & choices. Therefore, we must treasure its wisdom and steadfastly hold on to its precepts in all lifes situations.
♦️ WISER THAN MY TEACHERS
Ps 119:99:-This verse teaches us that our understanding of God’s word and ways is not limited to what we receive from our teachers. We can learn from our own study and meditation. Teachers are often helpful but not absolutely necessary.
♦️The Bible tells us of men who were not educated by the world’s standards (such as the disciples, as in Acts 4:13) yet they had great understanding and were effective in serving God.Yet we also have many educated men of God in the Bible and at present. ♦️We may hear the wisest teachers and remain fools, but if we meditate upon the sacred word we become wiser.
♦️Such meditation on the true history and meaning of life, as found in the Bible, will indeed yield more true wisdom than can be obtained in modern education, as it is very much influenced by the false philosophy of evolutionary humanism.♦️Therefore to be educated does not guarantee wisdom for living because we still have many educated fools.
♦️ WISER THAN MY ELDERS
This also tells us that while we should in general respect the understanding and wisdom of the elders, we are not slaves to their wisdom and understanding. ♦️Our rule for faith and doctrine and living is the Bible itself, and not the understanding or interpretation of it from even the great men of history.
“The elders are held in high repute, but what did they all know compared with that which we perceive in the divine precepts? ‘The old is better’ says one: but the oldest of all is the best of all, and what is that but the word of the Ancient of days.” (Spurgeon)
♦️The challenge we each face is how to apply God’s word to our life. It is not good enough to simply know His word. We must apply that word to our daily living.
CONCLUSION
Beloved, how we may outsmart our enemies just by realising that it is God’s word we know & understand that gives us an advantage over our adversaries. We do not have to worry about tomorrow; God already has that figured out. We just need to learn to trust Him and His plan. ♦️When we keep God’s word within us, we have something that no one can ever take away.
♦️Sure, Bibles can be confiscated, but our memories are ours and ours alone. That is one reason why God’s word is so powerful. His word is always with us and we can use it in every situation we face.
PRAYER
O Lord my God, please help me to always search out this wisdom embedded in your word every day in Jesus Christ name, Amen 🙏.
