HOW TO EARN BIG FROM FARMING: LEARNING FROM DR NALUYIMA
By Robert Bake Tumuhaise
The kind of men and women who are going to take Africa to another level are not necessarily those who have many degrees but rather those who practically implement every idea they learn or generate in their minds. Like I said in my previous post, for anything you do, if you want it to succeed at it, you must apply business principles in order to minimise costs (input) while maximising the results (output). I am continuing to share directly quoting from the book MILLIONAIRE FARMER, which I wrote based on the success story of DR EMMA NALUYIMA the revolutionary farmer whose fame spreads across the globe. Copies of the book are available at WORLD OF INSPIRATION (Luwum Street MM Plaza T33) at UGX 30,000. You can also call/WhatsAp 0704666851 / 0774107287 for delivery (in Kampala delivery is free & upcountry you contribute 2,500 which is half of the delivery fee charged by buses). Now let’s get to today’s message:
Dr Naluyima is one of those Africans who have tried their best to practically apply whatever they’ve learnt in school and through experience in order to make money. One of the pull factors that brings visitors from various parts of the world to tour her farm is the fascinating demonstration of technology, most of which is locally engineered by herself. This has enabled her to accomplish a lot that would have been difficult to do manually. Indeed hers is a story of technology rubbing shoulders with passion and business. That is why her farm is so amazing, not just because of what she is doing but also how she is doing it.
One of the amazing innovations at Dr Naluyima’s farm is how she waters her crops. Her irrigation system demonstrates the power of technology. Water goes to every corner of the farm through pipes with an automated system that switches itself on and off. This way, Naluyima and her family can sit in their house and relax, knowing that enough ‘rain’ is irrigating their crops.
“Gone are the days when farmers had to wait on nature to send them rain for them to plant their crops. Today, technology has made it possible for a farmer to defy the natural seasons by creating his/her own ‘rain’ through irrigation,” remarks Ssalongo. “Some farmers are busy fasting and praying for God to send them rain to water their crops when God has already given them water on their land. All they need to do is embrace technology and figure out how to irrigate their crops. Once you have water on your land, you are no longer bound to follow the traditional seasons. Using your system, you can command ‘rain’ to fall on your crops.”
Pasture improvement is another wonder at this Millionaire Farm. She has a fodder unit that grows animal feeds in 6 days. Of course that shocked me the first time I heard about it. How is it even possible? She explained: “A hydroponic fodder machine creates the basic conditions for germination that we learnt in primary school science (P.3) i.e. air, water and warmth.” Pointing at her machine that’s about the size of a small lorry, she explains: “This unit has the capacity to feed 20-25 cows or 100 pigs or 185 goats throughout the year.”
Comparing this revelation with what other farmers say – that you need one acre of land to feed one cow – Naluyima laughed. She assured me: “Bake, you don’t need 20 acres of land to feed 20 cows; you only need this unit.”
At Naluyima’s farm, the hydroponic fodder machine is mainly used to grow barley because, according to her, barley has all the nutrients that animals need, meaning they don’t need any other food. This implies that even with a small piece of land, I can take care of livestock in the backyard of my home. What an amazing innovation!
Modern technology is also demonstrated in how she sustains the fish. Many farmers I have interacted with say you can hardly keep fish without running water because the fish produce toxic substances. But at Naluyima’s farm, there’s no sign of running water. All she has done is deploy the power of technology. In fact she kills 2 birds with the same stone of technology – purifying the water and oxidising it at the same time.
“In fish farming, you will realise that tilapia need a lot of oxygen to grow,” she explains, “so I produce that oxygen.” She does this by growing vegetables and fruits near the fish ponds. So water from the pond goes to the plants, the plants suck out the nutrients, purifying it in the process. In the same process, plants, through aquaponics, add oxygen into that water. Then it comes back to the pond clean and highly oxidised. The system has a timer and so it switches itself on and off. ... (TO BE CONTINUED).
We encourage you to visit WORLD OF INSPIRATION today and get yourself a copy of this great book, MILLIONAIRE FARMER or call/WhatsUp us on 0704666851 (Bake) 0774107287 (Winnie) and we shall deliver your copy right where you are. This book was written by a celebrated inspirational author and businessman who uses his 10 years of business experience as well as his experience in authoring 9 other bestselling inspirational books to demonstrate how big money can be made in business, using Dr Naluyima’s farming as a case study. With this book, change has come to your home today! Also note that every month we organise a study tour at Dr Naluyima’s farm. Below are details of the next tour.
TOUR/TRAINING AT DR NALUYIMA'S FARM
A new era has dawned of to Africa. It's an era of revolutionary business ideas. The ideas that are kicking poverty out of communities. One of those ideas is modern organic farming. Even if you have land as small as your veranda, you can earn from farming. Friends who wish to do farming as a business and earn big, another opportunity has availed itself. On Saturday 9th July, 9:30am to 2pm, WORLD OF INSPIRATION has organized another study tour at Dr Emma Naluyima’s Millionaire Farm at Bwerenga, 4 kms off Entebbe Road (Kawuku). We shall begin with touring the farm and thereafter have 2 hours of training in commercial farming. Did you know you can use animal dung to make chicken feeds? Did you know that urine is the best fertiliser ever? Did you know you can grow animal feeds in 6 days? All this and much more you will see with your naked eyes at Dr Naluyima’s farm. You will be able to see how this revolutionary farmer is using 1 acre of land to keep animals and also grow over 20 varieties of crops – all in a system, using locally designed technology that you can learn and begin using immediately. You will be able to ask questions on anything she is doing – fish, piggery, poultry, cattle, matooke, maize, fruits, vegetables, herbs, biogas, hay, silage, irrigation, liquid manure, e.t.c, and she will give you all the expert advice. To join this event, the fee is UGX 50,000, payable in advance to Bake (0704666851) or Winnie (0774107287). We are left with only 15 slots for this intake, so the first people to pay will take them, but those who don’t get slots can book for following month (August) since we organise this tour every month. The August date will be communicated in due course. For those who will book in time for the 9th July tour, we shall set off together at 9:30am at Railways Offices, Nasser Road (transport is provided).
