UCU offered [us] members of the EDF [now Alumni Villages] not only a training ground, but also the opportunity to meet, unite and share visions for development after school. And that is the social capital that the members want to tap, in their quest to tame the remaining two challenges of no houses and delayed marriages.

5. The project administrators have been very transparent. They have always accounted of every single coin pulled out of the project’s treasury. With this they won the trust of some of us and thus willing to continue with the project at all costs.

4. The project at the same time helped us fulfill our land owning dreams. Some of us had hopes of owning but the “when” was not known. Basing on the current land prices (extremely high) I personally thought owning land in a 4yrs time yet I had been saving for a year. The project narrowed down a 60month plan into a 10 months plan.

The project united us alumni. Regardless of the campus or year of graduation, provided you are an alumna or alumnus, everyone was welcomed. This is how some of us who graduated recently from the main campus saw ourselves in a project engineered by Mbale campus alumni.

What I have Like about the Project - Afande Luwalila Isaac

The project brought different people with a common aim of owning land regardless of the location. By the time the project started, the only thing that was known was the main objective (OWNING LAND IN EASTERN REGION) but the actual place (district) was not known.

3. The project also boosted our saving culture. Every month, we were at least supposed to save 50,000shs (when the plots were at the anticipated price of Shs. 500,000). However when the prices hiked to 1.5M per plot, we had to increase the amount put aside for the project.

What I liked about the project

From Mrs. Nandudu Sarah

Former Guild President UCU-MUC

Greetings in Jesus name.

Observation number one is that I liked the trust that members had in the leadership by paying their money without seeing the land.

e) There is strength in numbers; buying land as a group is a form of security because it limits cases of people buying "air" besides even the community will be threatened to attack a group of turn against them. Land issues are very sensitive and troublesome.
f) Another thing I like is the honesty of the leaders. They never promise what they cannot deliver or lie to the team for popularity. They say it just the way it is.
