Davies Kaboggoza son to the late Ssonko "kyapa mbalasi" of Natete drowned while riding on a speed boat in America.
His body was found at the bottom of the Santa Barbara Harbor seafloor early Saturday evening. According to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, the man was 30-years old and from Uganda.
Authorities say around 4:15 Saturday afternoon the fire department and Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol responded to a water rescue after a paddle boarder reportedly fell off his board and did not reemerge from the water.
According to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department, four fire engines, one ladder truck and a battalion chief to Stearns Wharf. From there, the department had five water rescue swimmers join the harbor patrol swimmers who were already in the water.
Those swimmers would dive to the bottom of the ocean floor, searching for the victim, before coming back to the surface. Authorities say the swimmers searched for 40 minutes before a United States Coast Guard helicopter from Point Mugu and a boat from the Channel Islands also responded to assist with the search.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Dive team was also nearby for re-certification training and transferred to the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol boat to also assist with the search. After the SLO County Sheriff's dive team transferred to the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol boat, the Sheriff dive team collectively responded to the harbor. After the dive team was taken to the last known location where the victim was seen, within minutes the victims' remains were found at the bottom of the harbor floor. It is not clear if the victim was wearing a life vest.
Kaboggoza was a grandson of Canon Ddungu
