This fuel-saving orbital insertion technique may be particularly useful for exploring planets at the edge of our solar system, including ice giants.

We hope you can give your Monday a 10 (million) star rating!

This NASA's Hubble Space Telescope image of globular cluster NGC 6540 shows a stable, tightly bound multitude of stars. The populations of these clusters can range from tens of thousands to millions of stars, all of which are trapped in a closely-packed group by gravity.

Hubble’s view into this globular cluster helps astronomers measure the ages, shapes, and structures towards the center of the Milky Way. Studying clusters like these can help us better understand how our galaxy has evolved.

One hour after sunset tonight, M13, also called the Great Globular Cluster in Hercules, will be around 75° above the horizon (depending on your location) in the western sky. But as we progress into fall, it will slowly dip towards the horizon. Catch it while it's still high!

You’ll find the 5.8-magnitude globular about two-thirds of the way on a line connecting Zeta (ζ) to Eta (η) Herculis. You don't need a big instrument to dig into its details; binoculars will do. But the larger the scope, the more individual stars you'll be able to see.
