🐾 Found Kittens? Please Read Before You Move Them! 🐾
It’s that time of year again, and we are already receiving tons of calls about baby kittens being found all over the community. We know how hard it is to see tiny kittens outside and not immediately want to scoop them up and bring them to safety — but in many cases, the very best thing you can do for them is leave them right where they are.
👉 A kitten’s best chance of survival is with their mom.
Mother cats will often leave their babies for periods of time while they search for food. They may also stay away if people are nearby because they feel nervous about approaching the nest.
What You Should Do
💛 Leave the kittens where they are and check back periodically to see if mom returns.
💛 If you want to help, make sure mom has access to shelter, food, and water nearby.
💛 If you haven’t noticed mom around after checking back, look at the kittens’ bellies:
Round and firm: Mom has been there and they are being cared for.
Flat or empty: It may be time to reach out for help.
Once the Kittens Are Older
🐱 If the kittens are friendly and social:
Try to re-home them through social media. There are many Facebook groups dedicated to helping animals find homes.
🐱 If the kittens are not friendly:
They may be community cats. Contact All Kind’s Community Cat Coordinator to learn how to best utilize our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Release) program, which humanely helps control the population while keeping cats healthy.
When Mom Is Done Nursing
Once the kittens have weaned off mom, reach out to us to discuss next steps for getting mom and the kittens fixed so the cycle doesn’t continue.

These little ones need the best chance at survival — and sometimes that means letting mom do what she does best.
