Got to show off our new house to a few people who hadn’t seen it yet this week, and every one of them mentioned how wonderful the breeze felt coming through our side porch. They definitely weren’t the first to notice it.
And every time someone says it, I smile, because I know it wasn’t an accident.
Isaac Hammons was so intentional about how we laid out our house on this land. He carefully planned the placement so we wouldn’t be fighting harsh sunlight and so our porches would actually be enjoyable places to sit, with a breeze flowing through them.
He is so, so good at his job. But more than that, he’s passionate about it.
He’s passionate about working with the land instead of against it. About learning the land and how it lays, how it drains, how the sun hits it, how everything works together and then using that knowledge to make the land work with us, too.
And that’s exactly how he approaches every job he takes on. He is meticulous, calculated, and careful about doing the job to its fullest extent.
Sometimes that looks like marking corners so someone knows exactly where their property lies. Sometimes it’s marking a fence line so there aren’t problems years down the road. And sometimes, it looks like standing on the side porch of the home we built on our land and realizing he positioned it just right for the breeze to blow through.
