“There’s literally no other restaurant around. We’re the only place with silverware, a plate and a server,” says Adam Dove, the co-owner of Saltbreaker, the already popular restaurant and bar occupying a ground floor corner of the Storehouse Lofts.

Alameda Point may be quickly developing, but it’s true that full-service dining options are lacking. This presented Adam with an opportunity to make Saltbreaker a cornerstone for the burgeoning community.

“We knew we could be the only game in town and be different,” Adam says. “What we wanted to build is the idea of neighborhood-defining restaurant.”

Among his inspirations, Adam says, is Nopa in San Francisco and chef Danny Meyer’s Union Square Café in New York City. Both revitalized moribund neighborhoods and became magnets for other restaurants and small businesses.

“Those restaurants went into areas before they were kind of neighborhoods and became the anchor,” Adam says.

Adam and wife have owned a catering business in Oakland for the past two decades. As was the case for many the pandemic changed everything.

Their catering business cratered during the pandemic and only then did they begin thinking about opening a restaurant.

The concept for Saltbreaker is “comfortably elegant,” Adam says. “It’s not comfort food, but not stuffy, either. Just food that people like to eat.” An eclectic menu of craft cocktails are also popular among diners and Storehouse Lofts residents.

“We liked the industrial feel to the building” Dove says “It was just a raw, empty space and we enjoyed the process of building it out from nothing.”

This ongoing body of work explores the physical structure of a fleeting memory and various ways it materializes. 

With her background in photography, Jazmyne Woffard-Jones, one of the Storehouse Lofts Tenant, grew up taking photos of landscapes throughout the Bay Area.

Currently, she’s picked up a passion for painting and has experimented with photochemistry to “paint” the sky blue in one of her paintings on display.

Island Hopper runs every 15-30 minutes from noon to 730pm connecting riders with Spirits Alley, businesses, special events, Main Street Ferry and the Oakland/Alameda Water Shuttle. You can also track the Island Hopper LIVE! While sipping your beer .alameda or buying your favorite CBD wellness product at , you’ll be able to see when the next shuttle is coming.
