The Sun Stands Still...
๐ฅ JUNE 20th.
SOLSTICE EVE.
THE SUN STANDS AT THE THRESHOLD.
Today feels different.
Not because the sky is demanding attention.
Not because there is dramatic astrology unfolding overhead but because we stand at the edge of one of the most sacred moments of the entire year.
Tomorrow the Sun reaches its highest point in the Northern Hemisphere.
For one sacred moment, the Sun appears to stand still before beginning its return journey.
This is where the word Solstice comes from, the ancient Latin solstitium, meaning โthe Sun stands still.โ
Our ancestors understood this as one of the most spiritually charged moments of the entire year, a sacred pause between what has been and what is yet to come.
Tomorrow we celebrate Litha. Tomorrow the Wheel turns.
Yet today belongs to the threshold. The pause before the crossing. The breath before the prayer. The moment between what has been and what is about to become.
The Moon continues its journey through Virgo, inviting us to slow down and pay attention to the small things that support our lives.
Virgo reminds us that magic is rarely found in grand gestures. It is found in the tending. The sweeping of the floor. The preparation of the altar. The gathering of herbs. The lighting of the candle. The simple acts that prepare us to receive what comes next.
Today is not asking you to begin something new.
Today is asking you to become present enough to notice what has already been growing.
As Solstice approaches, many people may feel reflective. Memories may surface. Dreams may become more vivid. Old chapters may drift through your awareness one final time.
This is natural.
The Solstice has always been a meeting place between endings and beginnings.
The brightest light carries the first whisper of descent.
The longest day carries the promise of change.
Every threshold holds two directions at once.
As a medium, Spirit keeps showing me an ancient stone circle at sunset.
The final rays of the Sun stretch across the land.
Everything feels still.
Not empty.
Not silent.
Waiting.
I hear the words:
โDo not rush through the threshold.โ
Many people are already looking toward what comes next. The next goal. The next chapter. The next answer.
Yet Spirit keeps reminding me that sacred moments are meant to be experienced before they are understood.
Today is not about rushing forward.
It is about honouring how far you have already come.
The spirit world keeps showing me people standing beside a great fire. Not asking for more. Simply giving thanks.
Sometimes gratitude opens more doors than striving ever could.
๐ฏ The Old Ways. ๐ง
For our ancestors, Solstice Eve was a sacred time.
Fires were prepared.
Herbs were gathered.
Water was blessed.
Offerings were made.
Communities gathered upon hillsides to watch the setting Sun before welcoming its rebirth at dawn.
The old people understood something modern life often forgets.
The threshold matters.
The preparation matters.
The honouring matters.
Tomorrow the Sun reaches its height.
The Oak King stands in his full power.
Belenus pours his golden blessings across the land.
รine walks the hills of midsummer.
Sunna rides her brightest path across the heavens.
Cernunnos watches over the abundance of the wild earth.
Epona guards the roads that carry us toward destiny.
And tonight, I feel Hecate standing quietly at the crossroads.
Keeper of Thresholds.
Guardian of Transitions.
Torchbearer between what was and what shall be.
For every Solstice is also a doorway.
๐ฏ Practical Witchcraft.
This evening, as the Sun begins to set, light a candle.
Gold, yellow, white or orange if you have one.
Place beside it a small bowl of water.
A sprig of rosemary.
An oak leaf.
A flower from your garden.
Or simply something that represents the beauty of this season.
Spend a few moments reflecting upon the first half of the year.
What has grown?
What has healed?
What have you learned?
What are you ready to carry forward?
If the evening is cloudy, remember that the Sun remains above the clouds whether you can see it or not.
Its blessing is no less present.
Its power is no less real.
Offer your gratitude to the season.
Then allow the flame to burn for a while as you sit quietly with the turning of the Wheel.
๐ฏ Daily Practice.
Tonight, before sleep, ask yourself:
โWhat am I most grateful for?โ
Then ask:
โWhat am I ready to welcome?โ
Write the answers down.
Place them beneath your candle, upon your altar, or beside your bed.
Tomorrow the Sun stands still.
Tomorrow the Wheel turns.
Tomorrow we welcome Litha.
But tonight belongs to the threshold.
Tonight belongs to the sacred pause.
Tonight belongs to gratitude.
๐ฏ Solstice Sunrise.๐
Some of you have been asking whether I will be travelling to Glastonbury or Stonehenge to perform a Solstice ceremony this year.
The answer is no.
This year I will be welcoming the Solstice from home in West Wales, standing before the Preseli Mountains as the Sun rises.
There is something deeply sacred about honouring the turning of the Wheel from the land where Spirit has called me to be.
As the first rays of Solstice sunlight touch the mountains, I will be offering prayers of gratitude, blessings for the months ahead, and honouring the ancient rhythms that connect us all to the land, the seasons and the Sun.
Wherever you are in the world tomorrow, may the blessings of the Solstice find their way to you.
Blessed be,
Justine ๐ง๐
