Governor Hochul’s $400 million Championing Albany’s Potential (CAP) initiative is catalyzing investments in Downtown Albany — sparking new growth and moving major pieces of that vision forward.

🏙️ $18.6 million in CAP funding will support 10 projects, leveraging nearly $97.5 million in additional investment and creating nearly 300 housing units through projects including adaptive reuse and office-to-housing conversions.

🏗️ Columbia Development and Galesi Group has been selected to lead the redevelopment of the eight-acre Liberty Park district, with up to $40 million in CAP funding dedicated to advancing the project and transforming a long-underutilized gateway to downtown.

🌆 An additional $21 million will support streetscape improvements and small business enhancements — helping build a more vibrant, connected Capital City.

Together, these investments are turning the CAP vision into action — bringing new homes, businesses and activity downtown while creating the foundation for Albany’s next chapter of growth.

This milestone reflects nearly a decade of strategic site assembly, planning, preparation, a broadly-marketed RFP, and a rigorous evaluation and selection process. Capitalize Albany Corporation has selected a master plan proposal as the next step in advancing its Liberty Park RFP process. Capitalize Albany’s Liberty Park Committee voted today to select a proposal by Columbia Development and Galesi Group, adding to the major CAP Initiative achievements announced by Governor Hochul today.

Our team looks forward to working with the community, City, State and local economic development partners. We will continue to bring you more information through our website, newsletter and social media channels.

This undertaking would not have been possible without the support of Governor Hochul, Empire State Development, the Albany Convention Center Authority, City of Albany Industrial Development Agency, Mayor Applyrs and the vision and commitment of Capitalize Albany’s Board of Directors. We’re looking forward to the long-awaited transformation of this site into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood and commercial district. Our board and staff thanks all respondents for their thoughtful submissions.
