The goal isn’t new. It’s to make it feel original.

This mantel has been waiting for years for the rest of the story. Now I’m using leftover Chicago brick to give it the kind of character that feels like it could have always belonged here.

My inspiration came from the authentic fireplaces I’ve admired in Joanna Gaines and Allie | Home Decor + Lifestyle homes—those details that don’t come cheap in a new build, but make a room feel historic, warm and collected.

Now let’s see if I can pull it off.

One project at a time, one layer at a time, and apparently one fireplace at a time.

When we built our house, our focus was getting the bones right first—the layout, the function, and the things that would be much harder to change later.

The character didn’t all have to happen at once.
Some of it comes later, through the smaller projects and details that make a house feel more collected, more personal, and more like home.

That’s what this season is for us. Follow along as we keep adding character, one small project at a time.

Real life doesn’t stop at the bedroom door.

When Brady outgrew the baby blue, I didn’t want to create a picture-perfect room he had to tiptoe around. I wanted it to feel more like the young man he’s becoming—and still be a place where he could actually be a teenage boy.

So I reused what made sense, repurposed pieces we already had and shopped Facebook Marketplace and Walmart where the money would go further. Then I spent where it would make the biggest difference.

It isn’t precious or untouchable. But it feels finished, personal and like him—which is my favorite kind of room.

Now tell me honestly: are your kids’ rooms picture-perfect or very clearly lived in? 😂

A little Saturday reminder that you don’t have to wait for the budget, the renovation, or the “someday” plan to make your house work better. 🤍

This room still isn’t what it’s going to be—and that’s okay. A few things moved around, a little creativity, $0 spent, and suddenly an unused space is useful again.

I actually think some of my favorite home projects start with the question: What can I do with what I already have?

Car Wash Confessions, Part 2. 🚗🫧 Today I’m coming clean about something that occasionally makes our estimates look a little scary. 😬

We price the work we actually believe it takes to do the job well—with quality materials, good craftsmanship, and as few “wellllll, we didn’t account for that…” conversations as humanly possible. Does that always make us the cheapest? Nope. But cheap and inexpensive aren’t always the same thing. And neither are price and value.

Also, apparently Lane Kiffin caught a stray in the making of this Reel. 😂
