While swimming in the ocean, a lawyer gets caught in a rip tide. As he struggles, the tide pulls him inexorably out to sea.

His family starts crying for help. Beach goers run to the edge of the water. Everybody is in a panic as a lifeguard jumps down from her chair and runs toward the waves.

Suddenly, the drowning lawyer is lifted up out of the water by a shark, who then tosses him onto the back of another shark.

That shark starts to knife toward shore, the lawyer perched atop and smiling. As they approach shore they are joined by more sharks. The convoy brings the lawyer to the shore, and the shark he’s on rolls gently and drops him in shallow water.

Everyone watches this in shock. Finally, as the lawyer slops onto dry land, someone asks the lawyer what in hell everybody just
witnessed -

The lawyer smiles and answers, “Ah, well, just a little professional courtesy.”

We saw mortgage rates brush 6% for a week or two then jump. This is a pretty good, if brief, explanation of the importance of looking deeper at what the rates mean.
