For the 14th year in a row, Americans say real estate is the best long-term investment.

Think about that. Through rising rates, market swings, and all the noise, real estate keeps taking the top spot. That kind of staying power is hard to argue with.

And it makes sense. A home is the one investment that grows your wealth and gives you a place to build your life.

While every generation leaves homes for the next, today's data shows what that looks like. New homes are more likely to be owned by younger households. About half of homeowners in homes built in 2024 are under the age of 45, while only 15% are 65 or older. But over time, those homes change hands, creating homeownership opportunities for people at every stage of life. Homes built before 1970 are owned by a mix of every generation: 35-year-olds, 55-year-olds, 75-year-olds. That's why what we build now isn't for now. These are the homes that our kids and grandkids will be buying in 2070.
