Thinking about requesting a transfer within the Albuquerque Public School system? The first transfer request deadline of January 31st is fast approaching.

Before you can request a transfer your child needs an APS student ID number. I did verify with the APS Customer Service office that student ID set up has not been impacted by the cyber attack, but don't wait until the 31st to get their ID set up as it may take some time to process your request.

Here's a link on how to request a new student ID number if your child does not already have one. Note that if your child is currently enrolled in the APS system they already have an ID number and you do not need to take this step.

APS is New Mexico's largest school district, serving more than a fourth of the state's students.

Here's information on how to order your at home COVID tests! They must be sent to a *residential* address and you'll receive four tests regardless of the number of people in the household.

Don't forget as well the State of New Mexico home PCR tests are available at https://learn.vaulthealth.com/nm/.

Having both is not a bad idea. That way if you get a positive on the rapid test you can follow it up with the PCR test.

A great article about writing "love letters" (the pros and cons) as part of your offer. The New Mexico Association of Realtors® listing agreement specifically asks sellers if they are willing to consider such letters, and the Southwest Multiple Listing Service includes a field to let cooperating brokers know if a seller is willing to accept such letters.

The downside risks of discrimination are real, but I also remind my seller clients that if they decide to accept those letters, they need to take them with a grain of salt. Buyers can paint any picture they would like in a letter, but there's nothing binding them to those representations. Additionally, sellers need to be cautious about allowing those emotional appeals to cause them to overlook offer elements that might otherwise be cause for concern.

The APS School Choice Fair is coming up this Tuesday, October 19th. There is an online component as well as an in person option in the evening. If you are considering requesting a transfer within the APS system you will also be able to access the transfer form and start that process. The early transfer deadline in the past has been January 31st of each year.

Hey look, it's a photo of me on my roof servicing my cooler! Now that I have your attention, a reminder that it's going to get COLD soon. If you haven't thought about scheduling your evaporative cooler changeover yet, now's the time. Many companies are already several weeks out.

If you find it gets cold before you can do it or you can get it done, at least turn off the water to your cooler and disconnect the water line. That should prevent the line freezing, breaking, and filling your home with water until you can get it officially closed down.
