Stay Safe this Summer!
Be prepared for a big change in temperatures over the next week!
First up: a HEAT ADVISORY is in effect for western Dutchess County from 11am to 8pm on Thursday, June 19. Heat index values will make it feel like the temperature is between 95-98 degrees.
The combination of hot temperatures and uncomfortable humidity may cause heat illnesses. Take precautions to stay safe.
Drink plenty of fluids, limit outdoor activities, and stay in an air-conditioned space, if possible. Check on elderly friends and neighbors.
NEVER leave young children or pets unattended in a vehicle under any circumstances.
If you must be outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, which are noted below.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Remember that heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9-1-1 for suspected heat stroke.
