According to a new Realtor.com® 2026 housing forecast, the housing market is expected to remain steady- but more balanced- next year, and that’s good news for Louisiana buyers and sellers alike.

Key takeaways for Louisiana:
• Mortgage rates are expected to average around 6.3%, offering slight affordability relief
• Home prices nationally are projected to rise modestly (~2.2%)-not the rapid spikes we’ve seen in past years
• Inventory is continuing to improve, giving buyers more choices and more negotiating power
• Rents are softening across much of the South, including Louisiana

Local metro highlights from the report:
• Baton Rouge is projected to see sales growth of 7.1% with price growth around 2.2%
• New Orleans-Metairie is projected to see price growth of 5.8%, even as sales remain slightly slower
