With the introduction of Amazon HQ2 to Crystal City, the housing market is expected to boom in northern Virginia, DC and Maryland (and this has already always stayed a hot market in comparison to other regions across the country). In addition, Virginia Tech announced plans to build a $1 billion graduate campus in Alexandria focused on innovation and the state and county is set to invest a total of $223 million for transport improvements with $195 million going exclusively to nearby metro stations and to Ronal Reagan National Airport (I hear an audible sigh of relief from commuters and northern Virginia residents such as myself!).
All of these changes mean that the Washington region has been heralded as an eastern outpost of Silicon Valley.

This on top of the fact that house prices were already steadily rising this year.
