Did you know some of the most beautiful natural stone in the world has been forming for millions of years? 🤯
One of my favorite parts of renovating this Old Town Alexandria condo has been exploring all the incredible stone options. And the more I learn, the more fascinating it becomes!
Here’s a little Stone 101 🪨✨
🤍 Marble – Formed when limestone is transformed by intense heat and pressure. Known for its beautiful veining and timeless elegance, but it’s softer and more susceptible to etching from acids.
🤎 Quartzite – Natural sandstone transformed by heat and pressure. Often has the luxurious appearance of marble but is typically harder and more scratch-resistant.
🖤 Granite – Formed when molten rock cools slowly beneath the Earth’s surface. Durable, heat-resistant, and available in some truly incredible patterns and colors.
✨ Quartz – Unlike the others, quartz countertops are engineered using quartz minerals and resins. They’re nonporous, low-maintenance, and available in a huge range of designs.
And here’s what I find most amazing: No two natural stone slabs are exactly alike. Every vein, color variation, and pattern tells a geological story.
Now comes the hard part… choosing the perfect stone for my condo’s kitchen island and backsplash!
