The Mahan Park Improvement Project begins!
Mahan Park will be closed to the public as it undergoes a $400,000 transformation over the next few months. The park is expected to reopen by July 1, 2025.
When completed, the project will feature a new performance shelter, a universally accessible pedestrian plaza, improvements to the boardwalk in this area, new landscaping, new lighting and park furniture to match the Downtown Allegan streetscape, and an expanded donor wall to recognize this project's contributors. The existing grass area, terraced seating, and many trees will remain and blend seamlessly with the improved amenities to serve the community for another 40 years.
The City of Allegan secured $100,000 in grant funding from Consumers Energy Foundation, $160,000 in grant funding from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, $69,000 from the Patronicity crowdfunding campaign, and a $50,000 match from the MEDC as part of that fundraiser.
