Being prequalified is just an informal guess based on what you tell a lender. Being preapproved means a lender has checked your real financial documents and credit, giving you a verified budget and a strong offer for sellers showing them you are serious. You will also have an accurate budget to work on with no hidden surprises, you will know your exact limit and you will be ready to make an offer right away when you find the home you like. With the paperwork already done you will have a loan that finishes much quicker leading to a faster closing (sellers like this also!). Get preapproved!
