Wire fraud is a real concern in real estate transactions, and unfortunately, it does happen.

Scammers can send convincing emails that appear to come from a real estate office, title company, or another trusted party involved in your transaction. These emails may include fraudulent wiring instructions or claim that payment details have changed.

Before wiring any funds, always call the office using a phone number you already know and trust to verify the instructions. Do not rely on phone numbers, links, or contact information provided in an unexpected email.

If you receive an email requesting a wire transfer or changing payment instructions, do not send any money until you have verified the information directly.

Taking a few extra minutes to confirm the details can help protect you from a costly scam.

When it comes to wiring money, always call before you send.
