This is a question I’ve been asked a lot–and while the answer varies, I can say I have seen clients get a mortgage loan with a credit score as low as 540!

However, it's generally recommended to have a higher score to secure better interest rates and loan terms. In fact, for down payment assistance, your credit score will typically need to be 640 or higher. 📈

If you're looking to secure a mortgage, there are a few steps you can take to improve your chances:

📊Check your credit report with a lender and dispute any errors you find
💵Pay down your debts to reduce your debt-to-income ratio
💳Avoid opening new credit accounts or taking on new debt before applying for a mortgage
