Construction Of New GA400 Bridge To Close Kimball Bridge Road Beginning In May

In early May, work will begin to replace the bridge over Georgia 400 on Kimball Bridge Road, necessitating the closure of the road for at least 12 months. The closure will impact Kimball Bridge Road between North Point Parkway and Northwinds Parkway.

The Georgia Department of Transportation, which is replacing the bridge as part of its GA400 Express Lanes Project, has not yet set the exact date the closure will go into effect but has advised the City that it will likely be in the first two weeks of May. As soon as the City receives additional information from GDOT, we will share it with the public

When completed, the new bridge over GA400 on Kimball Bridge Road will allow for the additional lanes being constructed on GA400 as part of the express lanes project. For those traveling on Kimball Bridge Road, the new bridge will provide two vehicular travel lanes in each direction, a center median, wide sidewalks on both sides, improved lighting, and decorative elements.

For more information on the GA400 Express Lanes Project, please visit GDOT’s project page at https://0001757-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/

Just a quick reminder that our new glass recycling drop-off center opens Monday in the parking lot of the Alpharetta Public Works Department located at 1790 Hembree Road. Glass left at the new drop-off site will be transported to the Strategic Materials recycling plant located in College Park. The facility recycles most types of glass and sells their product to Georgia companies that manufacture consumer products like fiberglass insulation and flooring.

Community Update: Development of Waters Road Park

Following a series of public engagement sessions and online surveys held in March, the City of Alpharetta will unveil on Tuesday, September 13 the final concept plan for development of the new Waters Road Park. The unveiling and discussion will be done as part of the Alpharetta Recreation Commission’s regular monthly meeting that begins at 5:30 PM at Alpharetta City Hall.

Residents and others who are not able to attend in person can watch the discussion online at https://bit.ly/3BhTeyp or https://www.youtube.com/alpharettagov

During the meeting, in addition to revealing the final design, City leaders will discuss how the plans were adjusted based upon resident feedback and the input collected during the March public meetings and surveys.

Waters Road Park will be a passive park located on a 1.6-acre parcel of land located near the intersection of Waters Road and Kimball Bridge Road. Such passive park areas are commonly developed to include parking, designed play areas, restrooms, trails, pavilions, and park amenities such as benches and trash receptacles as appropriate to the size of the property and character of the area in which the site is located.

The City earmarked $1.25 million in funding from the 2021 Alpharetta Parks Bonds to fund the design and construction of Waters Road Park.

Great news Alpharetta!

Great news Alpharetta!

Alpharetta residents will have a new option for recycling glass beginning September 12 when the City of Alpharetta opens a new drop-off center. The center will be located in the parking lot of the Alpharetta Department of Public Works located at 1790 Hembree Road.

It is important to note that only glass can be dropped off at the 1790 Hembree Road location. Other recyclables and trash will not be accepted and if deposited in the recycling containers may result in loads of otherwise recyclable glass being diverted to area landfills.

Glass left at the new drop-off site will be transported to the Strategic Materials recycling plant located in College Park. The facility recycles most types of glass and sells their product to Georgia companies that manufacture consumer products like fiberglass insulation and flooring.

When it opens on September 12, the new Alpharetta glass recycling site will be available to Alpharetta residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. While it is an unstaffed facility, security cameras and license plate readers on site will enable the City to identify those who improperly dispose of items.

Additional information on the details of the glass recycling program and other sustainability efforts is forthcoming.
