What do you need?
I had someone to approach me ârespectfullyâ last year in 2023â with a housing need. Of course this approach wasnât unexpected since Iâve been working in real estate for over a decade.
However, the nature of the need was what spoke to my heart. Seniors on a fixed income depend largely on limited funds from social security, pensions, and/or savings to live. If you are not aware the housing market is going up along with the price of eggs and itâs clearly a sellerâs market. Inflation and income donât make a great combination. There is much less of supply and an increased demand especially in B-Town. People are selling their houses đď¸ because they canât make repairs, got behind on taxes, or have been gifted an unwanted inheritance of property that they canât afford to rehab or renovate.
Then you have the set of people who want to buy but just canât afford a down payment to purchase a house or whoâs credit score look a little funny when it come to the đ° money. Iâve heard it all and Iâve seen enough. What concerns me is the action or lack of action. Myself included. I must admit there were moments last year when I wanted to reach people that I didnât know and help them gain insight on what resources I thought theyâd want to know were available for them but chose to not engage due to the lack of interest from previous attempts. I meanâŚwhy assume that you know what a person wants or needs. However, this particular day I didnât even have to ask or assume .. As I walked away from the conversation, I realized that I was right back at a đŞdoor that had been opened for me once before to bridge the gap and feed the need. I was challenged with the task to connect deeper regardless of what reservations I or anyone else had. I was on an assignment that was so much bigger than me. So I ask.
