FYI. I know our family would be excited about another breakfast place.
Milton’s Design Review Board on Tuesday will review building plans for a proposed new 7-Acre Breakfast restaurant, and event space, in Birmingham Crossroads.
This is one of many items on the agenda for the May 2 meeting, which will start at 6 p.m. in City Hall’s Council Chambers. Citizens can attend in person or watch live online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpWr8hFbLQ4.
Often abbreviated as the DRB, the Design Review Board makes recommendations to the City’s Community Development Director and for consideration by other City committees. Its seven members, who are appointed by Mayor and City Councilmembers, review new construction proposals, new site development plans, and certain alterations to existing structures.
They also examine and vote on demolition proposals, including one Tuesday for 15370 FREEMANVILLE ROAD (at the intersection with Dinsmore Road). The applicant there wants to demolish an old house in order to build a new home on the same site.
Similarly, an applicant is asking to demolish a home and metal shed at 525 BATESVILLE ROAD (near Birmingham Highway) to prepare that site for a new home.
The DRB will then conduct a building review for a proposed restaurant at 875 HICKORY FLAT ROAD (on the 7-Acre Barn property by Matilda’s) being called 7-Acre Breakfast. As proposed, this restaurant would have an open courtyard and adjustable pavilion that could accommodate weddings and other events.
This meeting’s review relates to the building’s design only. The City Council is set to consider a separate petition for zoning modifications regarding this proposal later this year.
The DRB will then consider a request a variance to allow an existing structure to encroach the 50-foot rear setback requirement by 41.6 feet at 15245 BIRMINGHAM HIGHWAY (not far from Taylor Road and Tullamore Way). The applicant wants to build a new house on the property and keep the existing cottage as a guest house.
The next item is a “Final Review” of a building at 12220 BIRMINGHAM HIGHWAY in the Crabapple area. This is to modify an existing office for Alpha Spine Center to enclose an existing porch, thus increasing the size of a staff breakroom.
Finally, City staff will update the Design Review Board on the progress related to the District of Mayfield. Elements of this project are being prepared to go before the City Council next month. You can learn more about this project at www.miltonga.gov/DistrictAtMayfield.
After this meeting, the DRB is next scheduled to convene on the evening of June 6.
