📢 To be clear, I’m not judging you. I’m just telling you what I’ve learned after 300+ closings and helping people sell their homes across Cherokee, Cobb, North Fulton, Forsyth, and Gwinnett counties.
Because clutter isn’t always “messy.” Sometimes it’s just a home full of stuff that makes rooms feel smaller, darker, and harder for buyers to picture living in.
Here are 8 things that are clutter, but people swear they “need” when preparing a home for sale:
1️⃣ The pile of mail on the counter
It’s not “important papers.” It’s visual noise to buyers touring your home.
2️⃣ The chair that’s basically a clothing rack
If it never gets sat in, it’s not furniture. It’s storage.
3️⃣ The army of water bottles and tumblers
Pick your top two. The rest can go in a cabinet.
4️⃣ The collection of soaps, sprays, and half used products
Especially in bathrooms. Buyers read it as “not enough storage.”
5️⃣ The stack of small appliances on the counter
Air fryer, blender, toaster, coffee stuff. It makes the kitchen feel tiny, even in a North Atlanta open concept home.
6️⃣ The entryway shoe lineup
It’s not “convenient.” It’s the first impression when buyers walk in.
7️⃣ The “I’ll deal with it later” corner
Amazon boxes, kids’ stuff, random bins. Every house has one. Fixing it changes everything.
8️⃣ The furniture that blocks flow
Extra chairs, side tables, oversized pieces. If you have to squeeze around it, buyers feel that too.
