The Kiwanis Club of Marietta will bring back its 9/11 Field of Flags Memorial in 2026, marking the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. The powerful tribute will once again transform Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park into a display of remembrance and patriotism honoring the 2,977 innocent lives lost on 9/11.
The 2026 Field of Flags will mark the sixth installation of the memorial, which was first organized by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta in 2002. Each American flag placed throughout the field represents an individual who lost their life during the September 11 attacks, creating a visual tribute that honors each person and their legacy.
The community is invited to participate in the opening Flag Parade on Saturday, August 29, 2026. Participants will gather at 9:00 a.m. at Grace Community Church, located at 770 Kennesaw Avenue NW, Marietta, GA 30060, before beginning the approximately one-mile procession at 10:00 a.m. The parade will continue to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, where participants will help place the flags for the memorial installation.
The Field of Flags will continue to be displayed for the 25th Anniversary Memorial Service on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 7:55 a.m. at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, located at 900 Kennesaw Mountain Drive, Kennesaw, GA 30152. The ceremony will include a tribute to the victims of September 11, 2001, as well as the reading of the names of all 2,977 individuals who lost their lives. The flags will remain in place through Saturday, September 19, 2026.
For more than two decades, the Field of Flags has brought the Marietta community together to honor the lives impacted by September 11 and reflect on the values of service, sacrifice, and unity. All events are free and open to the public. Community members are encouraged to participate in the Flag Parade, visit the Field of Flags Memorial, and join together in remembrance of this historic anniversary.
