For the last couple of years, many buyers and sellers have been waiting for one thing:

“Interest rates are going to crash soon.”

The problem is… the current economic forecasts are not showing that.

As of May 2026, Freddie Mac reports the average 30-year fixed mortgage rate is sitting around 6.5%. More importantly, Fannie Mae’s latest housing forecast projects rates staying in the low 6% range through both 2026 and even into 2027.

That means we may not see those ultra-low 2–3% pandemic-era interest rates again for a very long time — if ever.

eXp World Holdings officially announced the acquisition of NextHome on May 7, 2026.

At the same time, eXp also changed its Nasdaq ticker symbol from EXPI to AGNT.

According to public statements from both companies:

🏡 NextHome will continue operating under its own brand
🏡 Leadership is expected to remain in place
🏡 The franchise model is staying intact
🏡 eXp says this move creates a “multi-model platform” combining cloud brokerage + franchise operations under one umbrella

This is a HUGE shift because eXp has traditionally been known as a cloud-based brokerage, while NextHome built a strong reputation as a modern franchise brand with a very relationship-focused culture.
